Storm brings snow, closures to Taos area

Posted

The storm that entered the Taos area Thursday hasn't quite been the "snowpocalypse" that some forecasters predicted. But areas of Taos County have received anywhere from a couple inches of snow to 13 inches at Taos Ski Valley.

With the snow and subzero wind chill factors have come closures. The following is a list of closures that The Taos News knows of so far in the Taos area.

  • Taos County Magistrate Court
  • Town of Taos
  • All senior centers located in Taos, Amalia, Questa and Chamisal

"The town of Taos will be closed today, so our staff can focus on snow and ice removal," said town councilor Darien Fernandez.

Some agencies are on a two-hour delay. Due to the weather conditions, which could include an additional one to three inches before noon, according to the National Weather Service, residents are advised to check with agencies to determine whether delays or closures are in place.

Wind chill values have dropped as as low as -9 degrees Friday with west winds of 5 to 10 miles per hour.

Friday evening is expected to be mostly clear with a low around -4, and wind chill values as low as -13. Southwest wind around 5 miles per hour will become calm in the evening, the NWS said.

Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny, with a high near 32.
